Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat (at Meta-Wiki only)

Meta-Wiki has a small active community. When a normal user requires the assistance of an administrator or bureaucrat for some particular task, it is not always easy to find one. This page helps users find one when they need one; asking specific admins directly via their talk pages is one way to elicit a fast response. It is only for assistance required at Meta-Wiki, help for other wikis needs to be requested at those wikis.

Continued discussion about special:abusefilter/131 being set to just disallow

The prior discussion is located here, which was archived despite having no further replies.

The warning does not make sense if the changes on various wikis in question (which are mostly blanking or disruptive changes in articles) are going to be prevented anyway. As Leaderboard said Should that not be done by the disallow template? and on en.wikibooks, the disallow template (wikibooks:MediaWiki:abusefilter-disallowed) explicitly tells users what to do (and we try not to have warning + disallow filters), I agree with them as the disallow template provides information on reporting an FP on any wiki, and some wikis do not use a custom warning and/or disallow template.

One more question: is the blanking tag (in addition to being set to disallow) necessary? Thanks. Codename Noreste 🤔 La Suma 19:46, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

Comment 1. The global disallow abusefilter message is a global system message, it can be modified by each wiki for their wiki, it cannot be set at this wiki for all wikis. 2. Custom messages at metawiki for a disallow will only be presented on hits on metawiki, the system is not designed to allow custom messages to flow out to other wikis, (and if they did they are only going to be in the language of the message (English) anyway.) The system even has a message for that mediawiki:abusefilter-edit-notallowed-global-custom-msg3. The actual filter is an older global filter and was in place when the filters were targeting small and medium wikis. 4. If an abusefilter is problematic at a wiki, we have the ability to modify it in a number of ways, and that can also include excluding certain wikis, or types of wikis. 5. Tags are a separate issue, and some people use them and some people do not. If a particular tag is not useful then float the conversation in a specific sense, rather than a vague sense, as how do we respond to that?

To the filters hits I looked back over a day and a half, I am seeing a lot of IP hits, and only a few username hits, and those against usernames were definitely vandalism. If there are specific user cases of problems with the filter then please identify the specifics and we can look at those. I am not seeing a particular requirement for help from an admin here, general discussions occur elsewhere.  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:22, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

I agree the filter should be pruned from warn+disallow+tag to just disallow - the others are redundant and in some cases misleading. * Pppery * _{it has begun} 15:06, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Done, also did some clean-up and added global_user_editcount < 100 so we're more than sure it doesn't trip on SWMT members, which was the main problem with this filter. XXBlackburnXx (talk) 15:46, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
